JONES
TALKIN’
with...
Bucky
Covington
FROM THE
FANS - FOR THE FANS!
Part
Two

For me personally, Bucky has brought so much happiness
into my life in so many different ways. I immediately fell in love with Bucky's
voice, and everything else was icing on the cake. He is so humble and sincere,
and makes every single fan he meets feel important. I really hope he knows
how special that makes us feel and how special he is to us. He's also helped
me overcome many of the fears in my life. I've traveled on three different
occasions and had the pleasure of meeting him all three times - twice by
traveling by airplane and then driving to another state, both of which were
a first time for me to do alone. I've also met with tons of other fans who
I now consider family all because of Bucky, and our love of his singing talent
and his down home southern greatness. So he has also helped me overcome my
fear of meeting new people and helped me break out of my shell a little bit.
He's also helped many of us get through some really rough times and I could
never thank him enough for everything. He makes it so easy to be a fan and
a supporter and I, and many others, will continue to do our part. And, of
course, we love Bucky's sense of humor and quick wit. So to sum things up,
Bucky's the total package!
We love you Bucky - don't ever stop being YOU!
*Angie in Indiana*
Have you always had black labs in your family?
*Martha*
You know…we have not. It was probably only the past ten years
that we’ve had them….maybe it’s the past eight years. My
dad had one. I had a pit-bull and then I got one. Then my dad’s
passed away and then we got him another one. And actually both our dogs
now look almost identical.
What are their names?
*Mrs. Jones*
My dog’s name is Slim. We found him on Shady Lane beside my bass
player’s house. He was stuck outside - he was three or four months
old or so - and when we got him he was real skinny…nothing but legs
and ears. We found him on Shady Lane so we called him Slim. Now,
he’s a new dog. He’s a big ‘ol fellow now! I
love him to death. And my dad’s dog is Blue.
Blue?
*Mrs. Jones*
Yes ma’am, like the color! I don’t know where that came
from. His other black lab was named “CJ” because when we
were at the river, we picked him up in a CJ5 Jeep. We called him CJ,
but he passed away while back.
Oh, no….that’s so sad.
*Mrs. Jones*
Yeah. That was sad.
I would like to know from Bucky which schools he attended in Scotland
County, North Carolina. I’m an Art teacher and throughout my
career I have taught in many schools in that county and I think I may have
taught him. I taught at Wagram Primary and Shaw Middle School in 1985
to 1988.
*Jackie*
Okay…I didn’t go to those schools. They are close to my
hometown, but actually…I went to Covington Street School when I went
to Kindergarten. Then for first, second, third and fourth grade I went
to South Scotland. My favorite teacher in the world taught me there for
third and fourth grade - a guy by the name of Billy Britt. Just a great,
great guy and I heard he’s still teaching there so whenever I do get
time, that’s one of the first things on my agenda to get down there to
see him!!
Oh you have to go visit him, Bucky!!
*Mrs. Jones*
Yeah, I really have to do that…that’s definitely on my list!
Then after that…I went to Washington Street School for fifth grade.
Oh, okay…So she wasn’t your teacher I don’t think.
*Mrs. Jones*
No, I don’t think so. Then I went to Sycamore Lane and Scotland
High School.
Wow, Bucky! You went to a lot of schools! (Laughing)
*Mrs. Jones*
(Laughing) Yes I did! I was living in the same house and they
just kept switching districts!!
Besides singing and performing, Bucky…what kinds of things
do you like to do in your free time?
*Angie*
Anything outdoors! I just bought a new street bike…a Yamaha. I
love riding street bikes, I love riding dirt bikes, four wheelers, water skiing,
snow skiing, I love boating!! On the water
is the only place where you can speed now and get away with it! (Laughing)
What’s your favorite song?
*Eryn and Myra*
That is really, really tough!!! It depends on my mood. Sometimes
you want to hear a slow song – sometimes a fast song. But…I’m
gonna say…“Suspicious Minds” by Elvis Presley.
Do you have any regrets in your life?
*Irma*
I don’t think I have any regrets in my life, no. The only thing
I can think of though is when my stepfather passed away. I was 18-years-old. He
was a great guy who meant a lot to me and we really got along great. He
had a massive heart attack cutting the grass and the day he died he came in
and started fussing about the grass getting cut. But he hadn’t
realized that he had only told just some of the people in the house, not everybody. We
actually had a fuss right before he died. That was bad and something
I can’t do anything about now…I still “talk” to him
just about every night so I’m sure he’s forgiven me.
What person has inspired you the most in your life?
*Irma*
My family. I’ve had and have a great family and the good thing
is I did have a stepfather, a real dad, a stepmother, and my mom. I had
two good sets of parents so I have to give credit to all of them. I have
a twin brother and a sister - all are very supportive. I remember telling
my mom, “I’m thinking about moving out to Nashville and really
trying to become a singer.” She said, “Good luck in Nashville!” They
never tried to hold me back – all of them were so supportive.
Being a twin, I’m sure you and Rocky have pulled many pranks
on your parents and your family. Can you give us your best prank?
*Irma*
My mom kind of broke us on the twin prank thing right from the beginning! I
remember this one though…My brother had done something bad and my mom
came into the room and saw what he had done. I can’t remember now
what it was, but anyway…it made her pretty mad! (Laughing) But
she followed me because she thought it was me…I
wasn’t gonna say “it wasn’t me” because I wasn’t
going to tattle on my brother. But I started to get my butt whipped!! My
brother sat over on the side and watched!! But his conscience got the
best of him and he spoke up. (Laughing) He said, “Mama, it
was me. I did it.” And he really got
his butt whipped!!! So yeah…she broke us of that stuff way back
then!!!
Oh! I have another good one!!... My mom goes outside and we’re
sitting at the table eating our lunch. There was a sliding glass door
with a screen door. So she went out of the sliding door to get the clothes
from the clothesline. Rocky and I got cold so we shut the glass door. She
comes back, opens the screen door and SLAMS into
this glass door!!!!! (Laughing) I mean like BAM and
almost knocked the glass out of it!!!!! We felt bad about it, but we STILL laugh
about that one today!!! (Laughing) Oh man, that was so funny!!!
There’s a commercial like that you know?!! (Laughing)
*Mrs. Jones*
I know it – with the birds!!!!!!! (Laughing hard)
You actually did that to your mother?! (Laughing)
*Mrs. Jones*
Well, it was unintentional – definitely not on purpose but when it happened…we
took credit for it! (Laughing)
Okay, Bucky…your ultimate concert….any 5 bands/artists
past or present. Who would you choose?
*Kathy*
You know what my answer on that is going to be! It’s got to be
the Big “E!!!!!”
Anybody with the Big “E?”
*Mrs. Jones*
Anybody with him?
Yeah…anybody with him or just him?
*Mrs. Jones*
You know something. This is going to blow your mind. I would love
to see Kid Rock with Elvis Presley!
Oh my heavens! (Laughing)
*Mrs. Jones*
Tell me you wouldn’t go to see that show!?! (Laughing) Hey
Rocky!!! Would you go see Elvis and Kid Rock? (Rocky laughing
in the background!) Kid Rock and Elvis!!! - You would have to
go!!!! “You ain’t nothin’ but a HOOOOOUND
DOG!!!!!!!!
Okay!!! I don’t think you need five after THAT answer!! I
think two is fine!!
*Mrs. Jones*
Oh, there needs to be five?? No...I don’t think you do need five! (Laughing)
How many songs have you written or co-written for the new CD?
*Debbie*
One song!
Which one?
*Mrs. Jones*
I co-wrote one with Mark Miller and Hobie from Sawyer Brown. It’s
a song called “Carolina Blue.” We wrote more songs than that,
but I have had so many good songs sent to me. I’m not going to
pass up a good song just because I didn’t write it. If it moves
me, it moves me. And if it’s a good song, then it’s going
on the album!
So, do people send you their songs and you read them and play them
to see if you like them?
*Mrs. Jones*
Oh yeah…I must have listened to over 250 songs!!
How many songs do you get in the mail, Bucky!? Is it the same
when people want to get into movies…they’re always looking for
the film directors?? Are they looking for you if they’re a songwriter?
(Laughing)
*Mrs. Jones*
Yes it is the same! (Laughing) The good thing is that from the show I’ve become a recognizable face. When I came to Nashville I went out to eat one time…and
four of the biggest songwriters in Nashville came over to the table and introduced
themselves to me! And I have to thank American Idol for that - for making
my face recognizable – those songwriters knew my face and they came up
to me with their great songs. I guarantee it…if I weren’t
on that show, I wouldn’t have these songs on my album!
So when you win your award, you WILL thank American Idol? Is
that what you’re saying? (Laughing)
*Mrs. Jones*
Without a doubt!! I would not be where I am
today without American Idol! I will thank them!
I wonder if Bucky knows the impact
he has had on so many people. I know of people (myself included) that have done things
so out of character just because he came into our lives. Driving 10
hours to see him in NC, flying on airplanes etc., just to get to see him
live. I have made two trips to see him in Rockingham (plus another
two trips to see Rocky play) from PA which is quite a drive. Would
do it all over again and loved every minute though. Before this year, the
last concert I attended was in high school. Bucky and Rocky are two
of the nicest "realist" people I have ever met. I thank AI
for introducing everyone to Bucky and Bucky for bringing us Rocky. I
can't wait for the single and cd to be released.
*Debbie from PA*
Will you be accompanying Sawyer Brown to any Canadian concerts?
*Debbie*
I just went and got my passport! But I don’t think we have any shows
booked in Canada yet. Hold on…Hey Rocky!!! …do we have
shows booked in Canada? We’ve got 15 shows booked with Sawyer
Brown, but I’m not sure if we’re going into Canada. But we
have the passports now so we just might do that!!
You have a lot of Canadian fans that wrote in, Bucky – get to
Canada!!!
*Mrs. Jones*
Really?! Then I need to go to Canada!
What is your height and weight?
*Kim*
I’m 6’2” and 160 pounds naked! (Laughing) 170
pounds with clothes on!
I want to know what Bucky’s favorite holiday is.
*Misty*
Fourth of July!! I really love the Fourth of July. I love the
summertime. I love the outdoors. I love boating. What better
time to go boating than the Fourth of July!?
I'd like you to ask Bucky if
he is aware of the disorder he's given all of his fans called OBCD? It stands for Obsessive Bucky
Covington Disorder! We've all got a pretty bad case of it, and no one
wants to seek treatment!
*Karen*
What is your best Christmas you can remember?
*Misty*
My best Christmas I can remember is when I got a dirt bike! My very
first dirt bike I got was a Z-50. My dad bought us this Honda Z-50 -
it’s a little motorcycle - and my dad used to race motorcycles. My
step dad…not so much... (Laughing) So my step dad got on
the Z-50 because he was going to show us how to ride
it! (Laughing) He made one lap around the house and hits the driveway
and falls over and for five minutes he didn’t move!! I mean just
fell and made a mess in the yard!!! (Laughing) Oh we laughed! I
don’t think we ever laughed SO hard! It was a great Christmas!
Terrific...terrific...Bravo, Bucky…We are DONE!!
*Mrs. Jones*
Really?? - Oh, man…I really enjoyed that!!!
